We all know that Mozilla Firefox is a web browser and with other words it is used to browse internet web pages. However, you can work with your Firefox offline to view images, open document files, test a website page you are working on and many others.
Today we’re going to teach you how to install and use Firefox on a computer that doesn’t have an internet connection.
Downloading the Firefox installer
When you download Firefox, you actually download a small file that acts like an installer, but at the same time it uses the internet connection to download the rest of the files from the internet. However, there is a way to download the full installer (which will not require an internet connection when you will install it).
To download the full installer, go to Firefox’s download page and don’t click on the big green button. Instead, you will look below it and click on “System and Languages” link. This will get you to a new page where you will notice a big list of versions, just pick the right version you need (depending on your OS) and a download will start with the full installer. After that, you can copy the file to a USB flash drive or CD and install Firefox on a machine that doesn’t have an internet connection.
How to transfer bookmarks from a Firefox to another
You will find it funny that you will want to use bookmarks on an offline machine, but you can add bookmarks to documents or image files that you want to check later. This way you will not need to search for that specific file and instead you will open your Firefox and look for the bookmark.
To transfer bookmarks, you will have to go to the bookmarks menu and click on Show All Bookmarks. After that, hit the “Import and Backup” followed by a click on Backup. This will save your bookmarks to a .json file which you will can then use it on your offline computer to restore the bookmarks. Keep in mind that by doing this, it will replace *ALL* existing bookmarks.
If you want to ADD bookmarks instead of replacing those that already exist, you can use HTML format. By importing from HTML it will simply add bookmarks to Firefox and your existing bookmarks will not be affected in any way. The HTML format is also recognized by Safari or Chrome, which means you can transfer bookmarks from other web browsers too.
Disabling some features that you don’t need on Firefox while offline
Since you will use your Firefox only in offline mode, you will want to disable some icons that can be used only when you are online. To turn these features, head to the menu (the icon that is located in the upper right and looks like three horizontal lines, the same as on Android) and click on “Customize”. You will want to remove the “New Private Window and Add-Ons icons as you will not need them in offline mode. After that, you can add Save Page, Open File and Print features to your toolbar, by dragging them there or right clicking them and selecting Add to Toolbar. After that, you will want to ditch Google Search and Download Manager by right clicking them and selecting Remove from Toolbar.
By doing all of these you browser will not be filled with features that you don’t need and it will help you work faster with it.
