Namotel 'Achhe Din' Claimed to Be World's Cheapest 4-Inch Smartphone: Report

Namotel promoter Madhava Reddy at a press conference in Bengaluru on Tuesday reportedly marketed the world's cheapest smartphone, the Namotel Achhe Din, for just Rs. 99.

Priced at Rs. 2,999, the 3G-enabled smartphone will reportedly be made available for bookings between May 17 and May 25 at its special launch price. However, the exact booking process is not clear. You need to sign up for a service called BeMyBanker to proceed with the booking, and also to provide details about your Aadhaar and your photograph, but BeMyBanker's website is not loading at present.

It is available on a cash-on-delivery basis *with "nominal delivery charges." The company's websiteadds, "This model is limited and it is applicable only for India and who holds Aadhar Identity." The number of units available has not been announced, or precise delivery dates.

The company website lists four other smartphones as well, ranging from Rs. 1,999 for the 4G LTE-enabled Aazadi to Rs. 1,99,999 for the VVIP luxury smartphone.

As per a PTI report in the Financial Express, Reddy claimed that at its launch price, the Namotel Achhe Din is the "world's cheapest phone with a 4-inch display". Other specifications include Android 5.1 Lollipop, a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, and 1GB RAM.

While a smartphone is shown alongside the Namotel Achhe Din listing on the company website, the listing also says, "Pictures shown in the website is for illustration purposes only," casting some doubt on the credibility of the company and product.

Not much is known about Namotel at this point, and it appears to be a Bengaluru-headquartered startup that began operations in 2016. The company on its 'About Us' page claims it was established under the auspices of the 'Make in India' campaign. It also claims to have offices in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Delhi, and Chennai, and adds, "We aim to create [a] new business model with sustained profitability and high sales growth since the very first year of operations. Namotel will be on the path of an ambitious journey to becoming India's first consumer brand, empowering people with quality innovative products."

This is of course not the first ultra-low priced smartphone with seemingly incredible specifications being marketed in India. The Docoss X1 was the latest example. The smartphone segment saw a buzz in February when Ringing Bells launched its Freedom 251 smartphone at just Rs. 251. The smartphone made headlines for a few weeks, and caught attention of the entire world. Freedom 251 from Noida-based startup Ringing Bells however soon lost its sheen.

The smartphone was surrounded by controversies that even lead to an FIR registered against the makers. The biggest highlight of the smartphone was its pricing rather than any specifications under the hood. The company received close to 60 million registrations in few days but after taking initial bookings for the handset, the Freedom 251 makers announced pre-booking money to be refunded to users and also confirmed that it would take cash on delivery, upon delivery. The first orders will supposedly be delivered in June.

Later, another India-based brand - mPhone - made headlines about its range of smartphones, offering great specifications at good prices. Unlike with Ringing Bells, the controversy surrounding the makers of the mPhone 'Mango' smartphones was due to the financial state of the proprietors, who were reportedly arrested at the launch of the brand in India for bank fraud.

How To Erase Your Phone Securely Before You Sell It

Whether you’re planning on selling your smartphone, or simply upgrading, it’s always a good idea to secure the data on your phone from being extracted. These simple steps should be mandatory when getting rid of your smartphone, but you should also take care of them on a regular basis–especially backing up your data. We are very reliant on our smartphones these days. You’d be surprised at the amount of information you could lose if you don’t follow these steps.
Read on for some helpful tips on how to secure the data before you erase your phone.

Back Up Data

While the information on the phone may not be important to anyone else, it is certainly of value to the owner. Before selling, back up all data so it does not have to be placed into the phone all over again. Take this precaution and back up data every 90 days or so, and especially before selling. There are many different applications available to safely and securely back up all data.
This guide from CNET will assist in finding the right app to back up data for an Android phone. CNET also provides this article as a step-by-step how-to on safely backing up all data. Once backed up and saved, data may be transferred to a new phone. Download the free iPhone Backup Extractor at this site and follow these easy step-by-step instructions. Data is kept secure and available for the user.

Encrypt Data

Always remove the SIM card from any smartphone before selling. Sometimes this step can be forgotten and the card is simply removed by the purchaser. No problems. No hassle. Owners can further protect themselves through encrypting important data.
Dual File Manager XT, ES File Explorer File Manager, and AndroXplorer File Manager are all easily installed Android applications. You can also find step-by-step directions on how to encrypt files as well as password protecting files. Encryption applications for the iPhone can be found in the Apple store by searching for and downloading the desired file.

Get rid of the FAT

File Allocation Tables (FAT) hold a great deal of data. These are usually on the secure digital (SD) card that may or may not be with the phone. The standard amount of information an SD card can hold is 64 gigabytes. SD cards hold very large amounts of information for the phone. An iPhone holds FAT data in its multiple applications. Open Applications in iTunes and simply delete.
When a file is no longer needed and deleted, in most cases, the file is simply written over with the new data. This tidbit of information has likely led to the unfounded rumors about permanently wiping an Android before selling. Free apps, such as Forever Gone, SHREDroid, and My File Shredder, will all permanently delete these files. Remember, when these apps are used these files are Gone, Baby, Gone.
Before selling the phone, simply remove the card and reuse in a new phone. If finished with the card and it is no longer needed, soak in salt water before discarding. The data will be permanently and irrevocably destroyed. This works for all smartphones. Once removed the data is no longer retrievable.

Factory Data Reset

This is the final step in securely erasing all user data from a phone. This step will permanently erase all stored data. On the Android 2.3 and below go to Settings, Privacy, and then Factory Reset. For Android phones that are 4.0 and above, go to Settings, Backup & Reset, and then Factory Data Reset. Should the phone be ‘hanging’ this step can also be used to completely reset the phone to factory settings, remember all data will be lost. For iPhones, you can reset factory data by going to the general menu and tapping the reset menu.

Health problems caused by Smartphones overuse

Technology comes at a cost. It is not just about the monetary costs. In this article, I put down some health related costs that come with using or overly using smartphones. In using smartphones, you have to be smart else you would end up with one or more of the following health problems.
Health problems caused by Smartphones

Health problems caused by Smartphones

Text Neck
Text Neck is a term used by doctors or physicians to describe the spinal disorder arising out of excess usage of smartphones. Normally, if the head is placed upright, there is no stress on the neck part of spine. But to read and text on smartphones, people tend to bend their necks up to 60 degrees. This increases the pressure on the neck. Long term usage of smartphones bring forth neck pain related to spine and hence, can be called spinal disorders. According to a survey published in Washington Post, around 80 percent of adult users suffer from this text neck pain.

The best way to avoid it is to bring up the phone to the level of your eyes and look straight into it. You need to make it a habit though it may look awkward. Another solution is to lower your eyes instead of bending your neck.
Vision Loss
Reading small fonts on a smartphone can disturb your vision permanently. This problem happens as your eyes are strained constantly by looking at the blue light coming out of the smartphone. Reading or using smartphones during absence of external light further boosts the problem. Your vision becomes poor and you might have to go for glasses.
The best way to avoid this is to look away from smartphones at regular intervals. Look at something far off and focus on it for a while before returning to the smartphone screen.
Wrist Problems
Another problem that comes with over usage of smartphones is the wrist problem. The way we hold smartphones for long durations, strains the wrist. People usually hold their phones using last three fingers and the thumb while using the forefinger for performing actions on the smartphone screens. Retaining the posture for longer durations every day tends to create pain in the wrist.
It is better to keep on changing the posture of phone when performing tasks like reading. You can put down the smartphone while lying on the bed or in the lap while sitting on a chair and look down at it instead of always holding it in your hands.
Numb Fingers
Similar to the above problem and for the almost same reasons, fingers of smartphone users become numb and produce a tingling sensation. Holding the phone places stress from the elbows to the fingers. The hands above elbow experience slower blood circulation and if not corrected immediately, can have long lasting effects. The forefinger too experiences the same and becomes numb after a while.
Instead of persisting in the same posture, it is recommended to put the phone away for a while. Then perform some movement of arms and fingers so that the feeling goes away. I would advise keeping away the smartphone for at least one minute every fifteen minutes of usage when reading or texting. That would avoid permanent problems that may arise due to persistence of prolonged usage like when reading books on the phone.

How To Fix iTunes Error 1601 or 1602 When Restoring An iPhone / iPod

When you attempt to restore an iPhone or iPod using itunes, you may experience error 1601 or error 1602. This can occur when the installation of itunes and the Apple Mobile Device support are corrupt. Itunes incorporates the Apple Mobile Device support when you install it. Itunes is essential for the operation of an iPod/iPhone, it allows the transfer of data to and from a PC or Mac, and also charges it.

What Causes The 1601/1602 Errors in iTunes?

When attempting to restore your iPod/iPhone, you may receive one or both of the following error messages:
The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred. (Followed by 1601 or 1602)
The iPod “[username]” could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1602)
The device is not then restored. This error is common when the installation of iTunes is corrupt, the protocol it attempts to follow is not fully operational and so cannot complete the task. The simple solution to this would be to completely remove iTunes and install the latest version. It may also be a problem in the registry. You can use a “Registry Cleaner” to eradicate any broken or damaged entries in the registry.

How to Fix iTunes Errors 1601/1602

Step 1 - Reinstall iTunes and Apple Mobile Devices Support

Completely removing these programs and reinstalling them will remove any corrupt instances of this application that may be hindering the use of the software. To remove it completely (on a Windows PC):
  1. Click Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs
  2. Locate “Apple iTunes” and “Apple mobile devices support”
  3. Remove both these entries
  4. Locate the directory where these were installed (ie. C:\Program Files\Apple\iTunes) and remove all traces of them from there
  5. Use a registry cleaner to remove any lingering registry values
  6. Download the latest version of iTunes and install it
You can find the latest version of iTunes from: http://www.apple.com/itunes/
This will remove any corrupt files and will provide the latest version of iTunes, which adds extra compatibility with various other devices. This means that it is not likely to reproduce this error.

Step 2 - Clean Out The Registry

The ‘registry’ is a very important part of the Windows operating system, and is frequently used to help your computer run as smoothly and effectively as possible. Unfortunately, the registry is also the cause of a lot of errors inside Windows, as it ‘s constantly being opened and read 100’s of times a day by all your software tools. This is a big problem, as it means that your computer gets confused about the files it requires to run, leading it to run slower and save many of its registry files in the wrong way. Not only does this make your PC extremely ineffective, but it also causes a lot of the errors that continually appear, such as the 1601 / 1602 error. To ensure your PC does not cause these errors again, it’s recommended you use a ‘registry cleaner’ like the tool below:

Tips to charge your Android phone battery faster

Tips to charge your Android phone battery faster
What’s worse than a dead phone? One that takes too long to charge! This has certainly happened to most of us before: you’re rushing out of the door and you happen to see there’s just 5% left of battery! Here are some tips on how you can get your Android phone to charge faster!
androidpit nexus 5 usb
Here's how to charge your phone faster!

The right plug and charger

First off, you want to ensure that you plug your phone into the wall socket, and in the best case scenario, using the charger that came with your phone, though nowadays, Android device chargers are universal. If you are in a hurry, avoid plugging your phone into your computer or laptop, because this will definitely slow down the charging speed, as will Qi wireless charging.

Get into airplane mode

Now enable airplane mode on your device to speed up charging. Depending on your device, there could be various ways to get to this. For example, on my Nexus 5, I simply long press on the power button, and select airplane mode when it appears. You can also go into the Quick Settings, by swiping down with two fingers. Every device is different, but you most likely know how to turn it on. Airplane mode blocks any wireless radios on your device, which means you won’t receive any calls, messages, internet access etc, but it’s all worth it when you think you’ll have a device that will still be on for the next few hours.

Turn that bad boy off

If you don’t actually need your phone at the moment, go ahead and turn it off completely. Obviously, any alarms or notifications won’t come through when it is off, but this is something you might just need to live without if you are racing the clock.

Switch off unnecessary features

Check to see if you have any unnecessary features on, like Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi, NFC etc. Close out of all your apps and stop your phone from doing any automatic backups or updating apps from the Google Play Store. These are just small, but golden tips when you are in a rush. Plus, everything can be easily switched back to normal when you’re out of the door and sitting in the train or bus. That being said, we highly discourage doing this if you are driving.

Switch off some system features if you aren't using them

Don't touch!

If you need to have your phone on though, and even want to leave it off airplane mode, because you have an important call, message or something of the sort, try to suppress the urge to check your phone every thirty seconds. Why? Because the screen is the biggest battery drainer of them all.
Did you try any of these suggestions? What do you do to make your phone charge faster?

Kaspersky Internet Security For Android Is Most Effective Mobile Protection

Kaspersky Internet Security for Android took first place in a test of Android security products conducted by PC Security Labs, an independent Chinese company. According to the test results published this November, Kaspersky Lab’s product successfully countered 99.959 percent of threats and returned zero false positives.

The testing was conducted on mobile devices running under Android (versions 4.x). In the study, samples of malware and legitimate applications were written on to the device’s SD card; after that, the tested security product was installed on the device and upgraded to its latest version. Then, the testers launched a scan feature if it was available in the security solution, or manually installed all the sample applications if the solution only supported automatic scanning. During testing, all correct malware detections and all false positives were recorded. This data was then used to calculate the final result.

All in all, 13 products from different vendors participated in the research. Kaspersky Internet Security for Android detected 2434 malicious samples out of 2435, and did not prevent the installation of any legitimate applications. Its closest rival was only able to correctly detect 2422 malicious applications (12 fewer), and it returned 2 false positives. As a result, Kaspersky Lab outstripped the runner-up by 0.693 points, having collected 99.959 points of 100 possible.

“Android is the most popular mobile operating system, which is why it is the most susceptible to cyber-attacks. As a result its users have an urgent need for quality protection which, at the same time, does not create inconvenience. The results of PC Security Labs’ tests show once again that Kaspersky Internet Security for Android is capable of ensuring maximum security levels and does not annoy the user with false positives that disrupt secure applications,” says Timur Biyachuyev, Anti-Malware Research Director at Kaspersky Lab.

Threats targeting Android devices have grown more diverse and intense in recent months. According to the recent Mobile cyber threats research conducted by Kaspersky Lab in cooperation with Interpol, users of Kaspersky Lab’s Android solutions faced over 3,400,000 threats over a 12 month period. 59% of them had the potential to steal money from users. The statistics clearly show that it is now vital to have reliable tools to ensure your Android device is secure.

How To Track Your Lost IPhone Or IPad Without A

Important note: If you haven’t activated “Find My iPhone / iPad / Mac” when you set up your device, this method won’t work.
Although you can download the official “Find My iPhone” app on the App Store, you don’t actually need it to track your Apple device. This means the app doesn’t have to be installed on your missing iPhone, iPad or Mac. The good thing here is that Find My iPhone is actually a cloud-based service by Apple. The app is only another way of accessing this service to locate your iPhone or other Apple devices. If you own an iPad or a second iPhone, you can also install the app and try to locate your missing device. Otherwise, all you need is a browser and your Apple ID login details.
Also, don’t be too worried that someone could disconnect your device from iCloud, turn off Find My iPhone or erase your device. If you’re on iOS7 or a later version, a feature called Activation Lock will prevent anyone from doing any of the mentioned things without your Apple ID password.
Alright, let’s get back your Apple device. Here’s what you need to do:

1. Login to iCloud and start “Find My iPhone”

Head over to icloud.com and log in using your Apple ID credentials. Once signed in, you should see your iCloud dashboard with different icons. Click on the “Find My iPhone” icon, which the first one in the second row. Now you should see the Find My iPhone interface, including a map.
icloud-dashboard

2. Choose your lost device and start the tracking process

Click on the “All Devices” drop-down menu on the top bar and select your missing device. The tracking of your device will now start. Depending on several factors, this can take a while. If Find My iPhone is successful and found your device, you should be able to see its location on themap. Now you have the option to trigger an acoustic signal on your device (in case you cannot find it in your house), activate “Lost Mode” and erase all data. Use the erase option as a last resort, since Find My iPhone won’t work anymore on your device afterwards.
location-map

Activating Lost Mode will lock your device with a password and display a message of your choice together with a phone number, so that a nice soul hopefully contacts you to give your iPhone, iPad or Mac back into your hands. The Lost Mode has the nifty ability to enable location services on your iPhone or iPad, in case it’s deactivated. So no need to freak out if you realised that you turned it off. It will stay enabled as long as your device is in Lost Mode.
This is basically all you have to do to track your lost Apple device. Please keep in mind that your lost device needs to be turned on and somehow connected to the internet. If mobile data is turned off and it’s not connected to WiFi, you won’t be able to track it using Find My iPhone. Your only hope is to wait and hope that the thief or someone, who found it, connects to the web. Thankfully, you don’t need to stay inside of iCloud and hit refresh all the time. If your device is offline, you can let Apple notify you once it’s back online.
offline-device
I really hope this article helps you find your lost iPhone, iPad or Mac. If you do, it would be great if you share your story in the comments! Also, if you know of any other way to track down a lost Apple device, please let us know.
