With a view to help passengers, escalators will be provided at the platform number two and three at the railway junction here, according to Manjula Rangarajan, Divisional Railway Manager, Southern Railway.

Speaking at the inauguration of Passenger Reservation System at Teppakulam post office, Ms. Rangarajan said the cost would be Rs. 1.16 crore. Tiruchi N. Siva, DMK MP, has promised to give Rs.1 crore from his MP’s Local Area Development Fund. Tenders would be floated in March and installation would be completed in six months, said Ms. Rangarajan.
Ms. Rangarajan said that escalators were provided on either side of over bridges in railway junctions. Trichi railway junction did not have a bridge connecting the seven platforms. However, as Mr. Siva had allocated the amount, escalators would be provided in the sub-ways at platform number two and three.

Mr. Siva, who inaugurated the Passenger Reservation System put up jointly by Department of Posts and Railways, promised to bear all the expenses for putting up the escalator at Tiruchi Railway Junction. He lauded the services of Postal Department and railways. “The Passenger Reservation Facility will help people in the area,” he said.

First reservation at the counter was made by an 87-year-old passenger Krishnamurthy. Mr. Siva handed over the reserved ticket to Mr. Krishnamurthy.

J.T. Venkateswarlu, Post Master General, Central Region Tamil Nadu, said Teppakulam post office was the seventh in Tiruchi postal region to have the Passenger Reservation Facility.

The other post offices which offered the facility are Aravakurichi, Muthupettai, Peravurani, Pudukottai Head Post Office, Renganagar, and Golden Rock. Core banking facility had been introduced in head post offices in the region, he said.

Government may increase lock-in period for PPF; to offer higher interest rate for 20-year tenure

The government is likely to increase the lock-in period for Public Provident Fund (PPF) by at least two years, reports ET Now.

According to ET Now sources in the Finance Ministry, those who invest in PPF will be able to withdraw after 8 years, as against the current 6-year lock-in period. The government is also likely to increase the tenure of PPF from 15 years to 20 years.

"While it will be up to the saver to opt for either a 15-year or a 20-year saving period, the government will look to lure people with a higher interest rate for the 20-year tenure, under Section 80C," reported ET Now. "This implies that if the saver is willing to invest in PPF for 20 years, the subsequent tax benefit will be higher," the channel said.

According to ET Now, the government is considering this move in order to ensure a stable source of infrastructure funding.

Meanwhile the RBI has said that unbreakable high value fixed deposits will soon earn higher rate of interest. Depositors who place their savings with a bank earn differential rates of interest based on the size of deposit, less than Rs 1 crore and above Rs 1 crore, and the longer the period, the more the interest is. Additionally, deposits up to Rs 1 crore can be withdrawn prematurely, resulting in asset-liability mismatch.

To correct this skew between the interest earned on loans and that paid to depositors, the RBI has allowed banks to offer deposit schemes up to Rs 1 crore, which cannot be broken prematurely, so-called non-callable deposits, but which can attract different rates of interest. This opens the prospect of retail depositors, who opt for such deposits, to earn a slightly better rate of interest than on a deposit which can be broken, or a callable deposit.

At present, all deposits accepted from individuals and a Hindu Undivided Family of up to Rs 1 crore can be withdrawn prematurely, leading to asset-liability mismatches in banks.

The RBI's latest decision is one of the major steps in the direction of interest rate rules linked to deposits, after the central bank allowed banks to offer floating rates on deposits a decade ago. The central bank will issue detailed guidelines soon. Premature withdrawals make banks' asset-liability management difficult.

Deputation of Inspector Posts / Assistant Superintendents Posts in the Directorate

No. GS/AIAIASP/IP-MAH/Transfer/2015                      dated :  4/2/2015

To,
Shri Rajkumar,
Director (Staff),
Department of Posts,
Dak Bhawan, Sansad Marg,
New Delhi -110001.

Subject:     Deputation of Inspector Posts / Assistant Superintendents Posts in the Directorate.

Ref.      :     Dte No. 4-4/2014-SPB.II dated 29th May 2014

Respected Sir,

I am enclosing herewith a copy of an application dated 3/12/2014 received from Parveen Kumar, Inspector Posts (Mails) o/o the CPMG, Maharashtra Circle, Mumbai seeking deputation to Directorate in Inspector Posts cadre.

It is intimate that the above named official is surplus candidate of Inspector Posts Examination-2009 of Delhi Circle and allotted to Maharashtra circle. Official has already completed 3 years’ service outside his parent circle and his Rule 38 transfer case is pending for want of vacancy in Delhi Circle. Now, official is willing to work in Directorate under deputation basis. Apparently large numbers of posts of Inspector Posts are vacant in Directorate where he can be easily adjusted. He has already submitted his request with the competent authority to forward the same through proper channel. It is admitted fact that Directorate is reeling under shortage of IP staff, result of which some important tasks including preparation of combined seniority lists of Inspector Posts from 2001 onwards could not be released till this date. Posting of such interested Inspector Posts will gear up pending issue/s.

It is therefore requested to consider the request of the above named official for deputation to Directorate in the interest of service.

A line in reply will be highly appreciated.
                              Yours sincerely,
Encl : A/A
